4-H Media Project

Sanpete County 4-H Media Project
October 2009

Youth in Sanpete County, grades 3-12 who participate in a 4-H project have the opportunity to earn the Sanpete County 4-H Media Project Award. Any 4-H Project can be started at any time of the year and completed on a schedule that complements the 4-H youth’s life. Youth must be enrolled in Sanpete County 4-H prior to step 2 to participate. If the youth is not enrolled in a 4-H club, they may enroll in the Sanpete County 4-H Club. Youth do this project at their own pace. Youth will be recognized at the Sanpete County Fair and 4-H Achievement Night in the fall. Each youth can earn multiple Media awards in one 4-H year, as long as all 10 steps are accomplished.

1. Create one or more projects in any of 4-H projects listed below. Youth choose their source of learning.

2. Create a visual display about the project(s) using at least one trifold display board.

3. Create a speech or demonstration about the project(s), using the visual display. Information that might be included: why you chose the project; steps used to complete project; personal progress; new concepts learned.

4. Let the 4–H office know you are ready to be videotaped. Contact the Sanpete County 4-H office either by sending an email to 4hsanpete@gmail.com or leaving a message for Anita Raddatz at 435.610-1147.

5. On the day of videotaping, dress appropriately for the content, bring your visual display, and arrive 30 minutes before your taping time.

6. You are videotaped.

7. Your videotape will be put on the http://www.4hsanpete.usu.edu/ website along with photos of your visual display (with parental permission).

8. After you have your videotape online, you will then take the videographer training from one of the trained 4-Hers.

9. Once you have the training, you can then videotape other 4-H’ers participating in the Sanpete County 4-H Media Project. Once this step is completed, the youth can then participate in the Sanpete County 4-H Summer Video Crew Project, led by a professional videographer.

10. In August, at the Sanpete County Fair, enter your project(s) and the visual display(s) for each project. This is mandatory for all grades 3-12. Also enter to perform your speech/ demonstration. This is mandatory for Seniors (grades 9-12), optional for Juniors (grades 3-5) and Intermediates (grades 6-8). Rosettes are given for speaking at the fair.

11. You will also receive the Sanpete County 4-H Media Project patch at the Sanpete County 4-H Achievement Night in the fall.

Congratulations!
